About Qualimetric

Measurement science, built into software and instruments

Qualimetric is an independent technology research company, founded in 2000 by Erik van der Werff, for organisations where measuring is a key activity. NexChrom and the Aura2 build on more than 20 years of international consultancy for the chemical, oil and gas industry.

Why Qualimetric

Answering one question: how do you know?

In many laboratories a certified result is still assembled by hand: peak areas from the chromatography data system, a calibration in a spreadsheet, the uncertainty in another, the certificate in a word processor. Every step works, but proving how a number came about takes time, and depends on who did the work.

Years of consultancy, technical audits and standardisation work in gas analysis come back to that same question. NexChrom and the Aura2 make the answer part of the work itself: software and instruments that record not only the result, but also how it was obtained, checked and approved.

Background

From consultancy to products

Qualimetric started in 2000 with expertise in gas technology and process analytical technology. From 2002 the work broadened to the energy, natural gas and petroleum industry: consultancy, research and engineering for production, exploration and research facilities.

Clients include industrial companies in the natural gas and petroleum industry and in the pharmaceutical and chemical industry. The work ranges from technical audits of gas transportation and metering facilities to predictive models, uncertainty evaluations and assistance with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.

Qualimetric is a one-person company, run by its founder Erik van der Werff, who carries out the consultancy work and develops the products, from software to instruments. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Process Technology from Saxion University of Applied Sciences and a master’s degree in Analytical Chemistry / Chemometrics from Radboud University Nijmegen.

Where chemistry and physics meet mathematics and statistics

Expertise in metrology, physics, chemistry, mathematics and statistics, combined with modern methods such as Bayesian statistics, machine learning and large language models: for problems where classical models fall short, because the underlying physical or chemical processes are too complex or not fully understood.

Expertise

Chemometrics · Metrology · Lab automation

Three disciplines that come together in every Qualimetric product.

Chemometrics

Statistics applied to measurement data: regression models for calibration, multivariate models (MLR, PLS, PCR), design of experiments, control charts and Bayesian methods. The foundation of every calculation in NexChrom.

Metrology

Traceability, calibration and uncertainty according to the GUM, the precision of test methods, and the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 seen from the laboratory that has to meet them.

Lab automation

Process analytical technology, quality monitoring and control systems, and software and instruments that take repetitive, error-prone steps out of the hands of the analyst.

Standardisation

Active in ASTM, CEN, ISO and NEN

Qualimetric takes part in the committees that write the standards for gas analysis, natural gas and petroleum products, with a focus on statistics, precision and the equivalence of test methods.

  • NEN 310193 · Natural gas. The Dutch mirror committee of ISO/TC 193: gas analysis and the calculation of physical properties, with participation as an expert in ISO working groups.
  • ISO/TC 28/WG 2 · Precision data. Precision, accuracy and the equivalence of test methods, including the development of ISO 4259-5.
  • CEN/TC 19/WG 36 · Precision evaluation. The statistics behind the test methods for petroleum products, for new and existing standards.
  • ASTM D02.04 · Hydrocarbon analysis.
  • ASTM D02.94 · Quality assurance and statistics.
