GasCatena · Gravimetric gas preparation
An unbroken chain
From weighing to traceable calibration gases
Guided gravimetric preparation of calibration gas mixtures according to ISO 6142-1, alongside the analytical balance you already have.
Coming early 2027
Metrological traceability
What it is, and why it matters
“Property of a measurement result whereby the result can be related to a reference through a documented unbroken chain of calibrations, each contributing to the measurement uncertainty.”
International Vocabulary of Metrology (VIM), JCGM 200:2012, 2.41
Catena is Latin for chain. A calibration gas is only as good as the chain behind it, and GasCatena documents every link of that chain for a gravimetric preparation: the calibrated balance, the purity of the base gases from their certificates, the molar masses and the air at the balance, each with its stated uncertainty, through to the certificate. So your laboratory can show where every value comes from.
Plan
Mixtures planned before you weigh
A register of recipes; the addition order follows the vapour pressure, pre-mixtures are flagged, and the expected uncertainty is known before you start.
Weigh
Fewer errors at the balance
Target pressures and expected readings at every step. Unstable or wrong-direction weighings are rejected on the spot, with a cooling wait after large pressure steps.
Certify
A certificate you can defend
Mole fractions, uncertainties and covariance according to ISO 6142-1, ISO 14912 and the GUM, checked against your scope and issued as PDF and ISO 23219 XML.
Verified before certified
Every prepared mixture can be compared with an independent analysis of the same cylinder and judged with the En test. NexChrom provides that analysis on your GC: errors-in-variables regression following ISO 6143 against certified reference gases, with GUM uncertainty on every mole fraction.

Highly recommended · Aura1
The air at the balance, on record
At every weighing GasCatena reads the Aura1 next to the balance: temperature, humidity and pressure give the air density and the buoyancy effect, shown and reported with the preparation. The Aura1 was designed for exactly this task: compact, powered over USB and read directly by GasCatena.
Independent
Stand-alone and secure
GasCatena runs as a local service and is used in a web browser, fully offline, without a cloud account. Your preparations and certificates stay in your own laboratory.
Accreditation
Built for accredited laboratories
For laboratories and reference material producers working to ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO 17034, with every result checked against the scope of your accreditation.
Data
Your systems, your data
Registers for base gases, balances and cylinders with their certificates and due dates. Certificates as PDF and as ISO 23219 XML.
Standards
The standards and guidance GasCatena is built on.
